Our Worldview

Compassionate Action

The Charter for Compassion is a bold, urgent call to action endorsed by more than two million people worldwide. It draws on the ethical traditions of the major religions and other spiritual communities and calls us to place compassion at the core of our lives. The Compassionate Humanity Community affirms this declaration.

It's time for us, as individuals and communities, to cultivate empathy for the suffering of all human beings, better understand ourselves and others, respect everyone’s infinite worth, relieve suffering, protect the environment, and establish justice — while celebrating the richness and diversity of the cultures that make our world so unique.

Compassion requires us to prevent suffering as well as ease it. We must get at root causes and change oppressive structures that cause pain, frustration, and anguish. Achieving these reforms requires organized pressure, including but not limited to strong unions and grassroots political action to change public policy. We must structure (organize) social activities to strengthen equality, justice, and compassion.

At the same time, compassionate action is not just about changing the world "out there." It's also about looking inward, acknowledging our biases and prejudices, and undoing or controlling them. We must grow as individuals, cultivate compassion with private acts of kindness, listen to others closely, and demand extensive public aid for those in need, including people in other countries. When others benefit, we benefit.

By balancing and integrating individual and community efforts, we can create a cycle of positive change. We can strengthen ourselves and our communities and work together towards a world where compassion is the guiding force in all that we do. It's time to join forces and create a ripple effect that spreads compassion throughout society.

Let's dedicate ourselves to challenging oppressive structures, advocating for change, and cultivating empathy and compassion. Let's work together to create a more just, equitable, and compassionate world for all. The time for action is now. Our collective efforts can make a difference. Let's leave a legacy of love and justice for future generations.
